THE BUYING JOURNEY
Buying a Fountaindale Calf is a Relationship, Not a Transaction
OUR PHILPSOPHY
We are selective in who we sell to — not out of exclusivity, but because we genuinely care what happens to our animals after they leave our farm. We want every buyer to be set up for success, and we'll guide you through the process every step of the way.

The micro miniature Highland market, unfortunately, attracts more than its share of scammers — preying on people's genuine love for these animals. If you are considering purchasing a calf, it is critical that you see the animal in person or via video conference, and speak directly with the breeder — not just via email or messages.
At Fountaindale Farm, we encourage every buyer to visit the farm, meet the mums, meet the calves, and have a real conversation with us. If a seller won't show you the animal live or talk to you on the phone, walk away.

BUYER CHECKLIST
Buyer Requirement & Recommendations
We ask that all buyers meet the following requirements before purchasing to ensure the best possible outcome for their new animal:
-
Property Identification Code (PIC)
A current PIC number is required for all cattle purchases in NSW. Contact your Local Land Services office to obtain one if needed. -
Suitable Fencing
Secure livestock fencing appropriate for small cattle — post and rail or good quality wire. Micro cattle can fit through standard cattle grids; discuss specifics with us. -
Companionship Plan
Micro cattle should not be kept alone. We strongly recommend at least two animals or a suitable companion. Please discuss your setup with us. -
Local Vet Access
You should have access to a local livestock veterinarian willing to treat cattle. We're happy to help you think through this step.

Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before buying your first micro miniature Highland calf.
+
Micro miniature Highland cattle typically stand under 90cm (approx. 36 inches) at the hip when fully mature. Mini Highlands may stand between 90–105cm. Both are significantly smaller than standard Highland cattle. The "micro" designation refers to the smallest classification, and Fountaindale Farm breeds exclusively to true micro standards.
Yes — Highland cattle naturally have horns, which are part of the breed's iconic look. In our bottle-raised animals, horn management is discussed as part of our care guidance. We do not routinely disbud unless specifically requested and discussed with our vet. Halter-raised animals are generally very manageable despite horns.
Micro Highland cattle are efficient grazer and thrive on good quality pasture. Most owners supplement with hay, particularly during dry periods or for young animals. A mineral lick is also recommended. We provide detailed feeding guidance with every calf sold, tailored to the individual animal's history at Fountaindale.
